City Fitness is one of the largest gym operators in New Zealand with more than 40 locations around the country. They’ve got plenty of experience running gyms since their beginnings way back in 1991. And despite being one of the gyms with the most satisfied customers, not everyone’s happy. And when that time comes for you you’ll want to know how to cancel your City Fitness gym membership.
Steps to cancel City Fitness
Step 1 – Check your contract for any minimum term period
If you’re cancelling before your minimum term period is over, you’ll have to pay for the rest of the months or $200 – whichever one is less. All cancellations also require 4-weeks notice unless for medical reasons.
Step 2 – Download and fill out the ‘Membership Cancellation Form’
Download and fill out this form – https://www.cityfitness.co.nz/content/pdf/Cancellation%20Form.pdf
Step 3 – Email it to their team
Once you’ve filled the form out email it here – [email protected]
Step 4 – Wait for a cancellation confirmation
You should get an email back confirming your cancellation request. Make sure to check our bank statements as well for any unwanted charges.
How else can you cancel
If you want to speed up the process, you can head straight down your the local gym you visit and speak to one of the customer representatives there to process your cancellation. If you have more questions, give them a call on 0800 348 637. This is quite similar to the way Fitness First in Australia handles their cancellations.
Don’t want to speak to them over the phone? You’re more than welcome to send them a message through one of their social media accounts below.
Why do people end their City Fitness memberships
Launching in 1991 in Wellington, City Fitness has become almost a household name in New Zealand. With many thousands of New Zealanders visiting their gyms every week. But although they’ve been ranked one of the country’s gyms with the most satisfied customers, it’s impossible to please everyone. And with some recent controversy in the news, many are choosing to cancel and move on.
One of the most popular reasons people choose to close down their memberships to City Fitness is that they’ve achieved their fitness goals. Whether it’s hitting a certain bench press, losing a certain amount of weight, or helping them in training for the upcoming marathon – once their goals are complete, they no longer need the gym. And so, instead of paying for something they’re not using anymore, they cancel.
Another popular reason is that it’s simply become too expensive to maintain. Just like why many people cancel their LinkedIn Premium accounts, monthly recurring expenses can quickly add up. And when they start adding up too much, it’s time to cut the cord on what’s unnecessary. And sometimes, that may just be the membership at City Fitness.
Final thoughts
City Fitness has been one of the biggest gym operators in New Zealand for quite some time now. And even though they’ve got thousands of happy customers, for others it’s just not for them. If that’s you, hopefully, the steps above have helped you cancel your membership quickly.
If you’d like to talk to one of their representatives, feel free to reach out to them on social media:
