AGL is one of the largest energy and gas companies in Australia, with more than 4 million residential and business customers around the country. They’ve also recently gotten into providing internet and mobile services as well. Despite their vast presence, thousands of customers aren’t happy. And if that sounds like you, maybe it’s time to cancel AGL for another provider.

Steps to cancel your AGL account

Step 1 – Make a note of any extra fees you may have to pay

You may have to pay to have your meter read one last time. Make sure to read your contract if there’s anything there. You can estimate the fees here – https://refer.agl.com.au/fees/

Step 2 – Choose which method you’d like to submit your cancellation request

There are three methods you can use to contact them – by calling them on 131 245, leaving them a message through their online platform, or by starting a live chat with them on your website.

Step 3 – Confirm your account has been closed by logging into AGL

Once one of their representatives has confirmed they’ll be canceling your account, logn to your AGL app or on their website to confirm your account will be closed shortly.

Step 4 – Check your bank statements for any unwanted charges

After the final date has passed on your account, check your bank statements one more time to see if there are any ‘accidental’ charges from AGL.

Other ways to cancel

If you’re unable to contact them through any of the above methods – you can give them a call on +6186336000 if your overseas. If you’re hearing impaires, you can give them a call on 1300 664 358.

Similar to AGL, another large service provider in Australia has similar methods for customers to cancel. Myob offers some of the most straightforward cancellation methods of any software subscription in the country.

Why do people cancel AGL

AGL is one of the largest fully integrated energy companies in the country. Providing millions of Australians with a wide range of services including mobile and internet plans, gas, electricity, and more. They’ve been in business for many years which gives them a great deal of experience in providing the best products possible. However, not everyone’s happy, and even just a few small controversies can push some of their customers over the edge, opting to close their AGL accounts and move to another service provider.

Of course, just like when people cancel their Binge subscription, one of the most popular reasons people move on from AGL is that one of their competitors is offering a better product. Energy and telecommunications is a fiercely competitive, and extremely profitable industry. This is why almost every company in the industry will fight tooth and nail for your business. And when a better offer comes along, most customers will close up and move.

The second reason, which we slightly touched on before, is because of their actions concerning the environment and community. In such a competitive industry, many companies seem to cut corners and bend laws to lower expenses and in turn increase profits. When, if, these actions eventually come to light, a lot of people aren’t happy. And if customers disagree with how the company they’re paying is conducting their business, they’ll most likely cancel and move to another provider.

This is also a reason why a lot of people cancel Fitness First – there’ve been plenty of controversies about their sign-up process, exit fees, and fine print in the contracts.

Final thoughts

AGL has quickly become one of the most reputable and consistent providers of energy, gas, and telecom services. In saying that, you can’t keep everyone happy. And if that’s you, hopefully, the steps above have helped you cancel your AGL account in the shortest time possible.
